Let’s look back on the stories that had most of us buzzing in 2011. From marriage to melt-downs, pregnancies to tragedies, here are the biggest celebrity moments.
1. Wills and Kate Fairytale Wedding
Prince William finally married his schoolmate Kate Middleton. The live telecast glued millions to the TV and had provided much needed boost for old England monarchy. And of course, the gorgeous Alexander McQueen gown and the blue sapphire engagement ring spun off heaps of copycats.
2. Kim Kardashian Weds
Not falling far behind in the glam factor is the US$10 million wedding reception of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. Perhaps announcing the end of the marriage after a mere 72 days citing irreconcilable differences takes the cake!
3. Passing of Amy Winehouse
4. Demi and Ashton Split Up
Though extramarital rumours had long plagued Ashton Kutcher, Demi finally called it quits in November when the tabloids reported that Ashton had an affair with 22-year-old Sara Leal in San Diego. It seems that young men have a lot to prove and Ashton might have taken his new role in “Two and a Half Men” a tad too far.
5. Justin Bieber Accused of Fathering a Child with a Fan
In November, Bieber fan Mariah Yeater claimed the singer lost his virginity to her and fathered a lovechild, who was already 3 months old at the time the story made headlines. Although Yater dropped her paternity suit later that same month, Bieber still submitted himself to a DNA test to end the rumours once and for all. The results are still unknown at this point.
6. Jennifer Aniston Finally Found Her Man
Jennifer became a happier woman in late 2011 when she finally found a mate in Justin Theroux, actor and screenwriter. The two met on the set of “Wanderlust” and this romance sparked many concerns about Justin’s genuity towards Jennifer who has many more zeros in the bank. And Justin ended his 14 years relationship (a century in Hollywood!) with his ex, Heidi Bivens, casts further doubts.
7. Divorce of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony
After 7 years of marriage and having twins in 2008, Jennifer and Marc parted ways in July 2011. Although they kept quiet about their reasons, photos of Jennifer cozying up with Bradley Cooper and a backup dancer gave good hints.
8. Charlie Sheen's Meltdown
Former “Two and a Half Men” star Charlie Sheen criticized the show’s creator, Chuck Lorre, on radio program “Alex Jones Show”. CBS then announced it had cancelled the rest of the season. Charlie retaliated and threatened to sue for breach of contract and went about a string of media exposures and taunted Chuck. Charlie lost the role to Ashton Kutcher but it won Charlie the title of Mother of Celerbrities’ Meltdowns.
9. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Secret Love Child
The image of Arnold took a beating when his darkest secret of having an affair with his housekeeper and fathering a love child 14 years ago hit the tabloids. His wife, Maria Shriver, of 25 years promptly filed for divorce and asked for spousal support and joint custody of their children. It appears The Terminator has kept busy over the years. It’s alleged that he has many female visitors arriving at 1am at his office building in Santa Monica, and would spend many hours and leaving carrying manila envelopes!
10. Kate Moss Got Married!
Supermodel Kate Moss and ‘Kills’ guitarist Jamie Hince married on 1 July in the village of Southrop in the Cotswolds. The happy couple’s enchanting ceremony was held in St Pter’s Church where her eight year-old daughter, Lila Grace, was christened.
